BC Transit has concluded this strategic planning process. The frequent transit route alignment and service option for South Squamish was endorsed by District of Squamish Council in June 2025. You can review the Engagement Summary to see the results of our consultation process.
What is this Project About?
BC Transit and the District of Squamish are looking for feedback on changes to the bus network to support a frequent transit route between Downtown and Garibaldi Village, as well as options for new service in South Squamish. For this study, South Squamish refers to Downtown, Oceanfront, the Adventure Centre, SEAandSKY, St'a7mes and Redbridge. These changes align with recommendations from the Squamish Transit Future Action Plan (TFAP), which was endorsed by Squamish Council in 2022.
During public engagement for the TFAP, respondents were asked whether they supported a high-level vision for transit in Squamish. This vision includes establishing a second transit exchange in Garibaldi Village and developing a Frequent Transit Network (FTN) to connect areas with higher travel demand. Public support for this vision was strong, guiding the development of the current proposal.
The goal of this project is to improve transit service by introducing a more frequent and reliable corridor between downtown and Garibaldi Village, while also expanding transit access to South Squamish. Public input is crucial, and will help us ensure these changes meet the needs of Squamish residents.
How Did We Get Here?
The project began with the 2022 Squamish Transit Future Action Plan, which identified key service improvements, including:
The need for transit service in South Squamish, along with a recommendation to conduct an on-demand study to determine how best to serve this area.
A study to explore options for a FTN corridor between downtown and Garibaldi Village.
