What is a Transit Future Action Plan?

BC Transit, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, the District of Summerland, the City of Penticton and the Town of Princeton are carrying out a planning process known as the Transit Future Action Plan.

The goal of the South-Okanagan Similkameen Transit Future Action Plan is to help guide decision-making for transit in the South Okanagan-Similkameen Regional Transit System.

A planning document that identifies improvements to transit services and describes the path to implement those improvements. The plan typically focuses on changes to be made in the short to medium term, with additional priorities identified for the long term.

Open House Schedule

Open houses took place on November 24 and 25. Thank you to everyone who participated!

  • Background

The South Okanagan-Similkameen Transit Future Plan was completed and approved in 2015, and identified the vision for transit within the South Okanagan-Similkameen Region over the next 25 years.

It is important that transit priorities are frequently re-evaluated to guide transit service decision-making as the region continues to grow, develop and change.

In order to update these priorities over the next five years, BC Transit is developing a Transit Future Action Plan (TFAP).

Why do we need your help?

The process of public engagement will allow residents of the South-Okanagan Similkameen to provide input towards:

    • Transit service and infrastructure priorities
    • Service details for future expansions
  • Service Expansion - 30 Summerland/Penticton

    January 3, 2022

The District of Summerland has approved expansion resources to improve service on the route 30 Summerland/Penticton for January 2022. A new midday trip will be added Monday to Friday, and service will be added on Saturdays.

  • New Route: 11 West Bench / Penticton

    • 3 trips each weekday
    • More coverage within West Bench area
    • Also serves downtown Penticton and Penticton Plaza before Cherry Lane Mal

  • Service Expansion - 70 Penticton/Kelowna

For the Penticton-Kelowna Connector, we will be introducing two new round trips that operate in the midday on weekdays. These trips are designed to connect with the route 40 Osoyoos/Penticton to allow customers to transfer and improve regional connectivity.
